Portraits

Graphite · Oil · People, pets, and houses

Drawn or painted by hand from your photos

I know a portrait is done when I step away, come back the next day, and see a person instead of a drawing.

People, pets, and houses, in graphite or oil. There's no AI anywhere in the process. The mockup edits are mine in Photoshop, and the portrait itself is done entirely by hand.

You approve the picture before I start

Send me the photo you want. If the best faces are in different photos, or there's something in the background you'd rather lose, I can combine and edit them. I send back a mockup cropped to the final size with every edit done, and we go back and forth until it's right.

That's where changes happen. Once we agree on the mockup I start, and I send progress updates as it comes along. The time for revisions is the planning stage, not once the drawing has started.

It takes about three weeks, plus shipping. Custom framing adds a week.

A framed photo or a portrait?

A printed photo the same size, framed, runs about $50 to $200. A graphite portrait starts at $300.

If the deadline is tight, or the budget is, get the framed photo.

If you have three to six weeks and you're marking something like a wedding, a retirement, or a pet you want to honor, get the portrait. A print is a copy of a picture. A portrait is an original.

Questions

How much does a custom portrait cost?

Graphite starts at $300 for one person and oil at $800. Each additional person adds $150 in graphite or $400 in oil, so a family of four is $750 in graphite or $2,000 in oil. Pets and houses are quoted from the photo.

Can you work from more than one photo?

Yes. I can combine several photos into one scene and remove things you don't want, then send a mockup for you to approve.

Do I see the portrait before you start?

Yes. You approve a mockup cropped to the final size before I start, and I send progress updates while I work.

Can I make changes?

Yes, during the planning stage. Once the mockup is approved, the drawing or painting follows it.

How long does a portrait take?

About three weeks, plus shipping. Custom framing adds a week.

Do you do pet portraits and house portraits?

Yes. Send me the photo and I'll quote it.

Do you use AI?

No. The mockup edits are done by hand in Photoshop, and the portrait is drawn or painted by hand.

Do you frame and ship portraits?

Yes, both are available as add-ons. Custom framing costs less than at a frame shop and adds a week.
